Writing Plan

Do you need a writing plan? Writing is the hardest subject to teach. Rarely is there a curriculum that addresses every kid every year that you might have. They are new writers in first grade and are all at different levels. Just like every subject you have to find out the best way to meet all students where they are. Whole group instruction only goes so far. These kids are just learning how to read, write, and spell. now we want them to put it all together and make it make sense. YIKES! Please read that again. I know they can do it, but the secret is that you need to break down each step and practice it A LOT so they can do it independently. The key is not to rush and to hold them accountable for their writing. I have tried it different ways and I like bits and pieces of what I have found. Here is what my writing block looks like every few weeks.
